I am the mother of a 15 year old girl. Would I be ticked off, livid, angry etc. if my daughter's picture was plastered on someone's blog and rude,petty remarks were made about her. YOU BETCHA I WOULD BE

I went ahead and asked my darling daughter what she thought about it...well ....not to my surprise, she said it would make her upset, angry, etc. And my normally quiet husband said the same thing....

But on to a more positive note-I don't have my own blog but I follow quite a few blogs. I thoroughly enjoy reading etc the ones that I do follow-you are a bunch of wonderful, caring, funny, upbeat women with passion for what you do Thanks ....

Lucky for us we don't see lots of nasty blogging going on out there. I've visited lots of "Mom" type blogs and I really enjoy reading them, meeting the blogger, and learning about new stuff. I haven't seen a mean spirited blog yet and I hope I never do. Seen plenty of funny ones though.

When you people watch, what goes through your mind? What are in your thoughts that you would be ashamed to say outloud? Well guess what? Trisha said them out loud. And peopleofwalmart.com does too and yet people aren't shutting that site down.

I'm just saying that Trisha made a bad judgement call on how she described that one chubby girl but to go on and call her names for how she handled the other pics is just as mean. She was at an airport for so long she was going crazy....so she people watched. We all do it. She just shouldn't have shared it with the world I guess.....but then again it IS her blog."

Are you that shallow you laugh at people on that site. You know what, I have never even seen that site and never will, why cause I dont find it funny. I guess that is why people call me the bad guy...

I need to get into my blog and remove my button of momdot. I want nothing to do with that community. I haven't been back since I posted a comment telling her that what she was doing in that post was disgusting and I won't go back, period.

I agree with you. That post had absolutely nothing to do with childhood obesity. It was a grown (so I thought) woman being evil in her delight to make fun of people. I stopped playing on that playground in high school. Good for you and other bloggers for standing up for what is right!

I don't agree at all with what Trisha did...and if she were "just" another blogger, spewing her prejudices, that would be one thing--under "free speech".
BUT--she is the owner of a whole blogging community...and she is being sponsored by companies to advertise their products! That puts her in a different category altogether. She is getting "paid" (albeit in product) for her opinions, and if I were a sponsor, I would certainly want someone more ethical to be promoting my product.

As a parent, and someone who works with children, I think that taking a picture of a minor without their knowledge and then posting it on the Internet and making fun of them is WAY, WAY, WAAAAY OVER THE LINE.

I don't believe that was just "bad judgment", but rather exploitation for traffic-and that is something that I absolutely won't support. Ever.

The whole name calling thing may very well be directed at me. I'm not sorry that I referenced her as skank, or ignorant.
If you are going to have a blog, and brag about controversy, then keep it straight. A couple of weeks ago she posted how she supposedly understands obesity and MUST lose 5 pounds. Mhm, ok then. Whatever.

Yet her post at the airport and it's supposed to be geared at battling obesity or w/e.
Ok, so if that IS what her post was about then tell me, WHY were there pictures of a Jewish gentleman, or whoever he is, and the picture of the man with a mohawk ... how do those photos even remotely have to do with being over weight?

Seems to me it doesn't fit what HER image of "normal" is. And if it's not "normal" then we must poke it with a stick, and resort to childish behavior? lol Ok, to each his or her own.
I do however stand by what I posted, I will NOT retract it, and I do not regret it.

She brags on her self proclaimed lover of controversy, but doesn't controversy come with debate?

@Annie, I have never been to the people of walmart site- even when I thought it was making fun of people who wore their pajamas in public or dressed funny I thought it was a little too mean for my liking- I had no idea, but you can be sure now that I do I'd never go and support it in any way.

I'm not seeing where I called Trisha names unless you think saying she is mean spirited and showing the ugly on the inside comment did that- to use her own words I did not sugarcoat it (much) but was telling it like it is.

I've been bored in an airport and other public venues many, many times but never did I feel the need to come broadcast to the world what I saw others flaws.

To shame and humiliate a girl who did NOTHING to Trisha but amuse her in an airport is, in your opinion, okay because Trisha was bored?

Sorry, life is hard enough without us cutting each other down, I don't tolerate that behavior in anyone around me and I won't keep my mouth shut.

I also don't sit silently by and listen to racist comments or sexist jokes- I let it be known I think it is wrong. If everyone sticks their heads in the sand or up their *sses when they see wrong, we will stay ignorant and intolerant.

I'm not perfect nor do I claim to be but I do know that living by the golden rule never hurt anyone.

I will not visit the site peopleofwalmart because I do not find it in any way entertaining to mock others! I don't have a problem with anybody expressing themselves on THEIR blog. My problem with this issue is that a child was exploited for the soul purpose of amusing someone who was bored. Sitting in an airport for a long time is no excuse for ridiculing someone because they are over weight, have a different religous belief, or dress differently than you! Just like I would not support anyone who was attacking her child, I can not support her.

And yes....the man in the first picture is an Orthodox Jew, probably Hassidic and it is not a uniform; rather it is how they dress.

Any company or PR firm that does business with her should think twice!

Her post had nothing to do with childhood obesity and everything to do with feeding her high schoolish behavior she has shown many many times.

If anyone thinks it is ok for another person to take, post and degrade any child on an internet website then you are WRONG.

Thank you for posting this so others are aware of Trisha and any other blogger on MomDot who are ok with this.

@Misadventurous Mommy- while I don't recall saying that every member of MomDot was a yes-man, the posts she allowed through the filter mostly agreed with her- I know some people who have tried to post and aren't while others are making it through. I was stating I can't support her site and I will meet others elsewhere.

If it was just the one picture I might see your point that she wanted to get across childhood obesity- the child was bigger, not obese, that in no way excuses the styles of hair or apparel chosen by others etc. There was no other purpose than making fun that I or others could see.

I posted her name not to be mean but because she seemed to take pride in her post and her opinions and I would NEVER post someone else's words without giving credit- I don't want people ripping off my blog and I won't theirs either.

Am I judgmental? I can live with it as it is standing up for what I think is right rather than making fun of someone else.

If you put your opinions on the web for the world to see, especially when you know by your disclaimers that they are controversial, you know you are going to get reactions. I don't think my response was in any way mean-spirited but if others do, that's on them.

Let me play Devil's Advocate for a moment.

I am a member of MomDot and have been for a while. I am certainly not a minion and do not YES Trisha or anyone else to death. Myself and several other members of the community disagreed with what Trisha did and wrote, BUT everyone is entitled to a lapse in judgment...everyone!

I think everyone mistook Trisha's intentions in that post...it was more about the issue of childhood obesity and parents being held accountable for what their children eat and keeping them active. I think there were better ways for her to get her point across that would have been far less detrimental but she did what she did and that's on her. I do disagree with posting the picture of that child and I agree with you that if I were that girls parents I would make sure that Trisha was held accountable for her actions, but I'm not and neither are you so who are any of us to judge what she does on her own blog?

I love the women at MomDot and would hope that I never let my relationships with all of those amazing bloggers suffer from something I didn't agree with. I think there are plenty of ways to say you disagree with something that do not include posting Trisha'a name in a nasty blog post though...kwim?

Good for you for standing up for what's right! Last evening after reading that post I removed myself from the forum and no longer want any part of that. When I first became invovled with MomDot I loved the diversity of all the women there. Apparently, diversity is not what Trisha is seeking for her community! Granted, childhood obesity is a problem(not that I think that girl was in any way obese), however, it can not be cured by ridicule and humiliation. I will not affiliate myself with anyone who attacks children!
