Win a Good Earth Prize Pack
We were fortunate enough to be chosen to be part of the Good Earth Blog Tour from MyBlogSpark.
We received the Mediterranean Chicken with angel hair pasta to review along with some super-cute bamboo dishes and flatware as well as a reusable/recyclable tote.
Each kit is made with 100% whole grain, no trans fat, no artificial flavors, no artificial preservatives, no MSG - just add meat and, voila! Dinner is served.
Basically, the Good Earth dinner kits are billed as restaurant quality meals without the huge pricetag that you can make in the comfort of your own home.
This isn't a toss everything together and heat on the stove one pot meal. There were several steps to getting this on the table, from dredging the chicken in the pre-measured mixture to making the pasta in a separate pan.
While it is a lot easier than assembling and putting a meal of this quality together ourselves, it takes a little time and effort- not much, easily less than 30, so probably as quick as ordering take-out and going to pick it up, but we wanted to make you aware that there were a few steps involved.
A couple other things that came to mind- this is a GREAT way for anyone who is wary in the kitchen, or just doesn't know what flavors go together to put a really fabulous meal on the table. Just add a nice salad and your favorite beverage and viola- it really is like something you would get in a nicer restaurant- definitely not run of the mill diner food.
We like to play around with a lot of different flavors, but seriously, it would cost a ton to gather up the wide variety of spices and seasonings used- so an inexpensive way to say celebrate your honey's promotion or birthday or something or just a nice date night meal- and if you are a parent and can't really afford to do the date night thing, whip it up after the kids are in bed and set a pretty table with maybe some candles or wildflowers or one of those $3 bouquets you can get in most markets anymore and you have something special.
That being said- it tastes NOTHING like one of those "helper" type meals.
Even miss picky liked it and she doesn't care for most Mediterranean type meals as most are heavy on the oregano (at least she thinks that's the flavor she's not fond of) and it was not as overwhelming as most Mediterranean dishes she's tried and while not her first choice she would eat it.
The one thing we'd change about the meal- the seasoning packets were fused together and we almost ripped the top off both and dumped (what we usually do if we use pre-packaged things)- thankfully since it was for a review we were a little more careful with reading directions and realized it was for two different parts of putting the meal together.
Currently Good Earth dry dinner kits offer a selection of four delectable meals: Mediterranean Chicken with angel hair pasta, Spicy Citrus Glazed Shrimp with angel hair pasta, Herb Crusted Chicken with mushroom risotto and Tuscan Chicken with penne pasta.
Don't they sound really good? I think that for a once in a while thing, when there will only be a couple of us home, these would not be bad to keep around for when we want something a little fancy but don't want (or can't afford) to go out.
Since Ki is in her apartment now, this is a great choice for her when she has a guest over.
I am going to try the risotto one for sure. :) Then the Tuscan- the shrimp- well the girls may try it, I don't do shellfish.
