Breaking Dawn Midnight Release, geekazoid's blog

Is anyone else going to a midnight release for Breaking Dawn? Yep the little diva's and I will be at our local Hastings unless the stepfather isn't working ot, then he gets the honors. He actually LIKES doing stuff like that with them.
The littles have been driving me NUTS waiting for the book to come out. You think I jest, but I am telling you, they are soooo into it that the little geekazoid even started a blog. She kept running to tell me all the quotes of the day at StephenieMeyer.com and then how little sense the fanfic she was reading made. Now this would be okay but NOT IN THE WEE HOURS. Some of us desperately need our beauty sleep. She knew this but still felt the need to update me repeatedly so I told her firmly to stop already. Her sisters were, naturally enough, ready to kill her.
She was about to explode so I said start a blog, so that's what she did. She's actually pretty good for a 15 year old (umm for any age, really) and her opinions are both witty and roll your eyes where do they come up with this stuff interesting. Here are a couple of direct quotes from her blog- yeah, that's my girl!
"The Twilight series is one of my many obsessions, as every member of my household has been made painfully aware. They're well-written and relatable--even if I wanted to throw New Moon across the room and hit Jacob with a crowbar a couple times."
"Another thing--the Twilight movie. Robert Pattinson? Come ON. Edward's supposed to be, in the words of a friend of mine, "drop dead lick-the-FLOOR gorgeous." (I have peculiar friends.) Robert's not even "fall unconscious touch-the-FLOOR mildly attractive." He's okay at best. And have you seen the previews/trailers? He sounds like he has a mouthpiece in his mouth. Okay, his acting doesn't fail completely--he made a decent Cedric Diggory--but he's just not right for the part. That's my opinion. Then again, you can't expect them to get much right. Books made into movies are very rarely worth it (and yet, I'll be in the theater the day it comes out). "
Naturally who gets to read it first has been dibbed- by the little middle. My poor baby geekazoid has to wait 10 hours. Err yes Casey will have to read it in one sitting with breaks only for potty. Them's the breaks. While I would LOVE to get them each their own copies, it is just not in the budget and they aren't willing to spend their birthday bucks on extra copies, so the poor littlest diva will just have to wait 10 hours.
Dawn wants to read it also, and Kyra (who is just now borrowing blondie's copies of the first three) but Dawn can wait and Ki has no choice since she's not buying her own- everyone here (including me) will have to read it before she gets a chance. She knows why, too. Think dozens of DVDs not returned.
Pretty sure Dev will dress up as Bella, and Casey maybe as Alice - umm skip that they are even now trying to find a way to undib what the other called... we'll just have to wait and see I guess.
Maybe we'll have pics one of these days.
I am sooooo behind on my contesting- what can I say, another month, another batch of contests I haven't entered expiring today. Maybe I will find the motivation. And maybe I will just sit here messing around some more.
Anyways, for any other Twilight fans, enjoy the new read and don't tell me til I get my turn what happens!!! We are going to duct tape Devii's mouth shut til we all have a turn as she has a BIG MOUTH and will sit there OMG I can't believe he did this or she said that while she's reading.

I'm an author, so... Another Giveaway- $50 Amazon GC

WooHoo I'm an author. There is a new e-zine for Stay-at-home Mom's and I wrote an article and I got a little columnist icon and everything. Everybody's got to start somewhere.
Actually I think it has the potential to be an awesome site- here's what they have as their welcome: SAHMAnswers is the magazine written by Stay at Home Moms giving hopefully one or two answers to get you through the day.
I think I did a pretty good job and it is on something that is near and dear to my heart as well as every other stay-at-home parent that I have ever met. So even though I already have a Back To School Giveaway going on I'm uber excited and have decided to do another one. I wish I was as rich as Bill Gates but since I'm not, this time it is for a $50 Amazon GC.
Anyways it's suck-up time. You knew that was coming, right? This one is a little more work but heck I don't write articles every day so here's what I need you to do...
Head on over to SAHM-Answers and become a member. Make sure to activate your membership. (That's one entry)
Actually read my article More than just a mom and leave a comment (only if you liked it- if you think it sucks then do like Thumper and if you can't say something nice, don't say nothing at all. (That's another entry)
Tell me how adorabe my kids and my grandson are. (That's cuz I like hearing it. Gets you major suck-up points.)
Do the hula while singing some Aloha-Oyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy, Aloha-Oyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy song and submit a video on youtube then put the link in the comments section. (That's just cuz I like to see other people make fools of themselves... plus, I wanted to see if you were paying attention.)
Come back here and let me know what you think of either SAHM-Answers or More than just a mom (and/or any other articles I happen to write between now and 11:59pm August 31st and let me know your user name there and you'll get your entry or entries.
Here's the important stuff.
Open to anyone who joins SAHM-Answers and comes back here to let me know your user name. Extra entry or entries for leaving a (nice) comment on my article or articles. (I will be writing more so any between now and August 31st when this giveaway ends.)

Characters Welcome.

Is anyone else glad to finally have some real tv to watch again?
I know how pathetic it seems but we are really happy to finally see some new shows- thanks USA. Honestly, now we can keep track of what day it is by something other than hovering the mouse over the time in the corner of our computers. I love USA's tag line- characters welcome. Yep, makes us feel right at home.
Thursdays we watch Burn Notice- if you haven't seen this show it is on our MUST WATCH and dvr list. They have a lot of contests going on now and I am trying to win the boxed set of season one. Michael Westin was a spy and his own team burned him and we're just now finding out why. The setting is Miami and the show moves right along.
Fridays we have Monk- think OCD former cop trying to make it as a PI. He can't be a cop any more because he couldn't save his late wife and he can't get past that. He's in therapy and has a personal assistant who is really more of a partner. It really is funny and moving.
Following Monk is Psych- okay this seems like it should be terrible and it is... terribly clever. Shaun's dad was a cop so he doesn't want anything to do with that, but he notices things and can solve crimes, it's what he does well, so he pretends he's psychic and helps out the PD. His partner Gus is his boyhood friend and kind of gets dragged along for the ride.
Corbin Bernsen (Arnie from LA Law waaaaaaaay back in the day) is his dad and they have a screwy relationship and just this season they brought in Cybil Shepard as his mom and he is just finding out that everything was not his dad's fault.
House used to be on after that- not sure what happened there- heard it was on a network now or something but we never remember to look.
Anyhoozles, we're glad to have something new that we like to watch on tv. Now when Brothers and Sisters comes back on we'll be all set.
Know any other good shows we need to get hooked on?

Parenting is not for the faint of heart or queasy of tummy.

Sometimes being a mom really stinks! Today is one of those days. My kidlets are hurting and I can't do a thing to make them feel better.
The two littles went to the oral surgeon and had some teeth yanked- not just the easy pull- and the mini-diva woke up during the procedure. They gave her another shot, but OMG OUCH!!!
Thank God for Ken. He took them and is even now running to get their meds. Yes, I know, earlier I bitched about the ex and my excellent (NOT) judgment, but I have to say I did okay this time around, as the girls say he more than makes up for the first screw-up.
This is one of the few parts of parenting I really have a problem with. Give me good old rebellion or the no no no or mine mine mine or teen angst any day. Those I have coping skills for. I can hold it together during a real emergency but I am such a wussy weenie I about passed out... or puked. Ken had to carry the mini-diva in from the car and she was crying.
I have to say though, that even though they hurt her, even though she woke up and moved and they gave her a few unnecessary jabs her manners are so ingrained that she kept thanking them. Whoever says manners can't be taught in this day and age is full of it. She also apparently treated them to a couple of songs from Forbidden Broadway, which amused them greatly I am told.
The littlest miss is faring a tad better as in her drugs had not quite worn off before we got more into her. (Ken made it back with their oxycodone.) She's reading now- they are both in their beds resting and my ears are on alert so I can run if they need me.
Oy I will never get this post done. Had to go running because the girls each need at least one dog with them... and Miss Kitty thinks she has to bully the others- she didn't want to lay but she doesn't want them to either. None of us can stand seeing our girls hurting.
On to something happier- have had some more happy mail the last few days... a few more prizes came in-
The Dark Knight Soundtrack; Oprah Tote which included: Bright orange zippered tote that folds small, another tote green, bottle Wishbone Bountifuls Salad Dressing, Dove Cream Oil body wash, Neutrogena mineral sheers powder foundation, Eucerin everyday protection body lotion, Aveeno sunblock lotion, Estee Lauder advanced night repair complex, Lancome paris mascara, Clarins Paris younger longer balm, several samples and trial sizes of make up and food and a coupon for a free Contessa convenience meal; Lucky Max Factor Prize Pack which didn't have everything it was supposed to but had a few things of eye make-up and a Magic Bullet Platinum Pro 20 Piece Set.
I know I am going to sound like such a dork here but when I was in the hospital I can't tell you how badly I wanted a Magic Bullet. Night after night it was that or exercise infomercials. I could not eat or sleep for days at a time so I tortured myself watching it over and over. Of course that was when things were a lot tighter financially and really I have enough appliances to get by (err more than there is comfortably room for to be honest) so there was just no way to justify getting one.
Kyra got a Magic Bullet for Christmas this year and she loves it- keeps telling me I really need to get one. She uses hers mostly to make up smoothies for her and the grandson in the mornings. I considered, I debated, I kept putting it off for some reason. Apparently this is the reason- I would have just gotten the small one in Target and it was meant that I have the super-duper deluxe model.
I can't wait to try this baby out- and since the littles will be needing some soft smooshy foods, the timing was absolutely perfect. Poor babies are hurting now... how long before those dang drugs kick in already? I wish I could take their pain for them.

Back To School Giveaway

Okay, thanks to the little geekazoid I finally figured out my next giveaway. We've been enjoying our summer vacation, but every so often Devon will bring up the fact that she has the list for her school supplies. Yippee! NOT!
She actually loves school (not the schools here so much) but mostly she loves new school supplies- the smells and textures and I don't know what all else.
So in honor of her and her shopping habit, she will be going school supply shopping for one lucky winner. We don't know what all it will include yet since we want to make it age and gender appropriate, but it will include a backpack and have a value of at least $50.
Since the little mini diva hates when I do anything without including her, and she HATES school with a passion she will be picking out a prize as well, a bento box. This is what we are going to be using for our lunchboxes this year. If you haven't seen these they are the coolest lunchboxes ever with little compartments to separate everything. What more could you want in a lunchbox- they are sturdy, you use less and waste less and you know you exactly what your kids are putting into their bodies.
For this giveaway you need to leave me a comment by August 15th stating whether you would like for a boy or a girl and if you want to specify Devon will try to make sure she picks out an age appropriate backpack and supplies.
If you like surprises and could use a little help with the school supplies this year (and who couldn't with all the crazy prices) then leave a note.
Okay onto the boring stuff. US Residents only please.
Two prizes. 1) Backpack filled with school supplies min. value of $50.
2) Bento Box
1 entry for leaving a comment stating whether it is for a boy or girl and age.
1 entry for linking to this post.
1 entry for adding me to your blogroll.
and 1 entry for subbing to my rss feed
To make it easier on me (yes, an old dog can learn new tricks) and the randomizer, please make a new comment for each entry telling me... and make sure to leave a link.
Good luck everyone!

Ian versus the pavement.

Well, my grandson has a pretty hard head. They tell me that the pavement took quite a beating but I wasn't there to see the dent he left in it. Ki and Aaron took him to the er just to make sure everything is okay and it is... and he was running around and playing with the girls and dogs here for quite a while so it's all good.

They also brought a pic from Chick-Fil-A when they dressed up for the free meal deal so I'll put that on here too.
The girls were going to put the spots on Ian's face but he wasn't having any of that but he did have the spotted onesie so he still counted as a baby cow.
Kyra's such a good little mama doing stuff like this for him- and trust me when I tell you he's more of a handful than I had with all 4 of them.

Whoever said dogs don't sweat- LIED!

Technically, maybe it is not sweat. But pansies that my dogs are they go outside to do their business then come right back into the air conditioned comfort of our home. They come back in reeking! Maybe I am hypersensitive to unpleasant odors, but you know that smell that little kids get when they have been playing hard outside for hours. The one that is not quite like when we lived in Alaska and whenever someone a little less meticulous than we are and had some vile body odor that made you gag when they passed by. That's the one. That is how my dogs smell after two minutes out in this hideously oppressive heat.
Now, I know dogs aren't going to smell like people (well we don't care for dog shampoo smell so mostly ours smell like either the Nexxus I use or whatever one of the girls whose turn it is to bathe them can use without another sister finding out and killing them) but that yummy smell goes away since it is bad to bathe them daily... but they don't usually STINK.
It goes away when they cool back down but ewwwwwwwwww I can barely stand to be around them until it passes. Can we say NASTY!!!
Why is it the nastier they smell the more they feel the need to come say hello to mommy? Just like human kids. Okay this probably sounds bad but we have this thing... hehe yes we have a lot of things... anyways if someone gives you "THE LOOK" and a number drop whatever you are doing and run, don't walk, to the shower because you have a stench factor. Usually it is after they have been on the school bus and the AC wasn't working and they've been sitting next to a bunch of sweating teens and tweens or something like that when they will get busted.
I know some people are opposed to deodorant but if I was ever stuck on a deserted island and could only take one thing, if they wouldn't let me pick a fully stocked, fully staffed, fully functioning cruise ship I would bring a lifetime supply of Degree Deodorant.
What can I say- I was the one handing my kids back to the nurses and saying help me to the shower the minute I saw they were healthy and had all their fingers and toes.
And I am rambling. So, anyone know any good cures for smelly pups that doesn't involve bathing them and ruining their skin every time they come back in the house?

Pick your own Orchard, Nature.

Nature and diva's don't mix. Period. Well unless it is at the ocean.
We went to Collin's Orchard here in Conway yesterday and it was really fun. But. You knew that was coming, right?
Ever since I got home, nosebleeds and sinus/allergy pain & pressure.
We had a seriously good time, though. Nectarines and peaches are in season- there were like 6 different kinds of peaches ripe- the white ones are the sweetest and it was so funny. Kyra bit into one and then held it for Ian to take a bite and instead he sipped the dang thing, it was that juicy.
We also ended up with regular and Japanese eggplant, white scalloped squash, peppers, cukes and baby grape tomatoes. Prices were better than anywhere else around here, we will definitely be going back.
While we were checking out a couple of different people came up asking about the corn- they had none left but apparently it is THAT good so we'll be back Friday morning unless something comes up to get that and a watermelon which will also be ripe then.
I did squeal when a stink bug landed on my Hello Kitty shades and then the stupid thing got on my shirt and wouldn't get off!!! so I started to panic but thank goodness my brave girls saved me.
Kyra and Ian spent the rest of the day with us- she made us a delicious peach cobbler that was just divine with some vanilla ice cream.
She also took some of the bounty home for their little family and her mother in law. I don't mind sharing but the kid did not take one of the more interesting specimen's my wonderful grandson picked. Next time he gets his own bag as he was not always gentle putting them in. Also some were overripe and others... so tiny they have no chance. Bwahahah he had fun and there is more than enough to go around I am teasing baby girl, you know that monkey boy can do very little wrong in a gigi's eyes.
I suck at putting pics in but we got some really cute ones of Ian with his aunties so am gonna try to put a few in here to share.
Hey mama!!! and sissy!!! You guys can say hi on here to me you know I don't bite (very hard or very often).
Oh, and T, mom said you have some pics of my great nieces so I can show everyone what a fabulous gene pool we come from so send them when you have a chance.
xoxoxoxoxox Love love everyone and thanks for reading. :)

I'm melting! & Jump!Zone

I totally feel like the wicked witch from The Wizard of Oz. Not because I am so mean (this time) but because I want to go around yelling
I'M MELTING!!!!!!!!! I'M MELTING!!!!!!!!!
Whew it is HOT out there! Really, we're wilting from just running in and out of the car. Had fun and got the monkey boy all tired out though so that's what matters.

We just had a Jump!Zone open here so Dev and I went with Ki and Ian. Fun and they only charged for one ticket since Ian is under two. They only charge for one adult with a child under two, but since we had to pay for Devii they didn't do the adult charge. It was $7.58 with tax and it's good for all day- you can even leave and come back, so not too bad.

The kids say the winner is the Pirate ship- it has the best slide, but the E-dude liked the thing with the balls best- he's obsessed with balls. Dev kinda liked the giant gumball machine, but I think that was because she's a sweethound more than that she thought it was the coolest thing there. We left after Ian got knocked over by a bigger kid. Total accident, but the little man was ready for his nap.
We hit Subway on the way home- the $5 footlongs are a pretty good deal, and since this Subway happens to be in with TCBY Ian and Dev split a cotton candy fro-yo while we ordered. Poor little tyke was so tuckered out he fell asleep at the booth. But 30 bucks for 5 subs, 1 drink, 1 chips (naturally I forgot the gazillion coupons I won for free chips) and a fro-yo is not too bad, I think- especially since that will be 2 meals each for us. Best part- no dishes and no mess to clean up! Yay!!!!! I love cooking but when it is this hot out I am not fond of exerting myself too terribly much from mid-afternoon on. I'M MELTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Doing the ChaCha!

I told you I'd get around to writing about my latest way to make money at home, so here goes. I am now a ChaCha guide. What that means is that I am one of the people who answer questions that people text in. Most are pretty easy and take anywhere from 30 seconds to 3 minutes to look up and link to the answer.
Some of the questions are very easy and I get them over and over- Does it cost me anything to use ChaCha? How much money do you make? What is the weather forecast in Orlando for the week?
Sometimes I will get things like How much is the cheapest flight to Chicago from New York? What is the current score for the Cubs? Who is Joe Blow from Idaho?
There are some really weird ones but they are pretty easy to answer- I just pooped a marshmallow from my ear what do I do? (I link Web MD and tell them to seek professional help.)
Anyways, it is easy, fun, I learn some neat things and I get 20 cents a question. The people I know who are doing it average anywhere from about $8.50 to just under $10. an hour for actual time spent answering questions. Some times are busier than others but when it's not too busy you can do other things like enter contests. You can also do your points and prizes programs while you do your searches.
If it is something that might interest you, here's what you need:
Be 18 or over and resident of the United States.
High Speed Internet Connection (sorry dial up users- although you can easily pay for high speed by what you earn.)
Pass the tests at ChaCha.
Have Firefox as your browser (if you use IE like I do, or another browser, don't worry, you don't have to get rid of it, just install Firefox when they tell prompt you at ChaCha and then you can have both up at the same time- like now I have Firefox up to answer questions and IE up to blog.
Test? What do you mean I have to take tests? Don't panic, they are really easy. The first 3 part test takes about 15 minutes and you can have the page open to look up the answers. The second part is 15 questions that you might get asked as a guide and you have 10 minutes to answer each one, it doesn't take near that long although getting some of the sports stats took me a little longer than the others. Not everyone passes, but that is mostly because they don't take the time to read the information they give you and use unreliable sources. They spell out what you can and can't use, so as long as you pay attention you can easily pass.
Anyhoo, if you are interested go to ChaCha to sign up. If you use my email discriminating_diva@yahoo.com as your referral I would really appreciate it as in addition to the 20 cents per question I will get 2 cents per question you answer up to a certain percentage of my own earnings for the first 20 referrals. You don't have to, of course, but it would be appreciated.
What I love about it is that it gives me a way to make money on my own schedule at my own pace. The last couple weeks have been either hella busy or not feeling well so I haven't done it much, but that is okay, I am over $225 for very little effort.
When the girls want to do something or Ian comes over to play, I just shut it down. When I am sitting on my butt anyways playing on the computer entering contests or reading forums or blogging or surfing or whatever I can log in and get paid for my time. Win/win.
If you do sign up (whether you use me as your referral or not) I would be happy to help you any way I can, from choosing the keywords that get a lot of hits to the sites I use for the fastest answers on particular questions or anything else I might be able to assist with.
If being a guide doesn't interest you, think about using ChaCha when you have your own questions. It is free to use (only your standard texting rates apply) and when you are running errands or whatever and need directions or an addy or phone number, ChaCha guides can help you.
Wanna ChaCha with me?

Changes

Lots of changes- getting ready to go up and say goodbye to Trina and Andy and the kids as they leave for Japan for 3 years- Trina is planning on coming home for the summers but still it is a long time, especially since she's a mama's girl like me. We're going to be having burgers and dogs on the grill and whatever- it seems like every event in our lives is marked by food. LOL Dawn and I are making a Boston Cream Pie (cake) to take. YUM, YUM!
Some really good news. I have been without a car since I got too sick and was taking meds that made me unable to drive. Well, when my nephew took apart and sold my van I didn't worry about it since I couldn't drive at the time. Now, finally, there are days I feel up to it so... we're finally back to two cars. Trina and Andy sold us their Saturn since they can 't take it to Japan with them. I am so happy. The plan is for Ken to use his car for work and Bugaboo and I to share this one- she'll use it when she's got extras after school and whatnot and when I don't feel up to driving. It was doable with one car, but with Ken working second shift- not always easy.
Also another way to make money online- started last Friday and by Sunday had made $135. part time so... it's a good thing. It's easy, it's working around my schedule, and it's online. The perfect job for me. Dawn is doing it too, and a couple friends of mine. I would NOT be writing about it if I didn't know for sure they paid on time, so... I will probably write more details later, but in the meantime if anyone is interested you can email me or leave a message.
I have more to blog about but things have been hectic and when we weren't running I was taking it easy- fighting off getting really sick. We do what we must. Anyways I need to finish that cake and get out of here.
